Graduate Programs

The Department of Kinesiology offers options for students interested in graduate school. Currently, students interested in a masters a degree that provides leadership credentials, the Master of Arts in Sport Administration is now accepting students. Other programs are being developed.

MA Sport Administration

The MA in Sport Administration is a 36-hour program that provides opportunities for students to investigate more in-depth concepts related to leading physical activity programs.  Faculty members provide in-depth coursework for graduate students in a variety of sub-disciplinary areas including sport psychology, recreation, health/fitness administration, sport governance and intercollegiate athletics, and sport leadership.  Students in this program have the option to complete a thesis in the final semester and present the results to the graduate department faculty, or to complete a capstone experience which can include an approved internship.

To enhance the professional’s understanding and knowledge of sport administration, the graduate program in Sport Administration seeks to encompass the elements of fitness, wellness, health, recreation, athletics, and leadership into a directed study of how to effectively implement programming in a professional setting. The program aims to challenge the graduate student in all areas of advanced university study relative to the discipline and to professional leadership.

The Master of Arts in Sport Administration program includes 12 courses in a planned sequence delivered in both in person and when appropriate hybrid format to support student learning and encourage a deeper understanding of sport administration.

Program Admission

Program admission standards include:

  • Application fee of $55.00 (Domestic) and $60.00 (International)
  • Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree at an accredited university (submit official transcripts to The Graduate School)
  • Undergraduate GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Three (3) letters of academic and/or professional recommendation
  • Successful completion of a course in basic statistics with a grade of B or better.
